Situated in the main square of Monteriggioni Castle, inside the medieval walls.
Poggio ai Laghi is a contemporary winemaking project rooted in the history and culture of the Tuscan region. It was born from the idea that wine can be much more than a product: it can be an expression of excellence and a symbol of identity.
At the heart of our vision stands the female figure with her creative energy, elegance, and innate ability to bring people together. Every action we take, every decision we make, every detail is dedicated to her.
The 2025 Poggio ai Laghi Wine Collection is the most complete expression of this vision: a story told through eight wines, inspired by the memory of Countess Ava and her Handmaids.
A project shaped by three elements that define who we are: wine, history, and art.
Each Poggio ai Laghi wine is born from a constant pursuit of quality, where tradition meets innovation. The 2025 Collection, from Chianti Classico and Riserva to Supertuscans and other unique expressions, celebrates Tuscan heritage through a contemporary vision.
Every bottle reflects the terroir of Monteriggioni, uniting elegance and harmony while allowing each varietal to reveal its true character.
To guide this journey, Poggio ai Laghi has entrusted one of the world’s most renowned winemakers: Alessandro Cellai. With repeated appearances in the Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines of the World, more than 80 Tre Bicchieri awards from Gambero Rosso, and a career launched under the mentorship of Giacomo Tachis, Cellai is today one of the most authoritative voices in contemporary enology.
"A great wine must embody three souls: the soul of the grape variety, the soul of the territory, and the soul of the winemaker."
Poggio ai Laghi actively supports historical research in the region, working in collaboration with local scholars.
From these studies emerged the story of Countess Ava, a strong and radiant female figure, and her seven Handmaids are symbols of Virtue and Unity.
Our wine collections are inspired by this history: each bottle is dedicated to one of the protagonists of this legend, turning wine into an act of remembrance an expression of culture, storytelling, and identity.
The 2025 Poggio ai Laghi Wine Collection was conceived as a collective work of art, where each bottle is unique yet gains strength through unity with the others. Maria Chiara Viviani, an artist from Siena with an international outlook, brought our eight protagonists to life, giving them a visual form with sensitivity and powerful symbolism.
Not just decorative labels, but a visual identity that tells a story, engages, and leaves a lasting impression.
At Poggio ai Laghi, hospitality means turning every visit into something to remember. Wine is at the heart of who we are, surrounded by experiences that bring Tuscany to life through its flavors, landscapes, and traditions.
From wine tastings and vineyard experiences to Tuscan cuisine, cooking classes, private events, and exclusive moments, everything we create is designed to build an authentic connection between our guests and our land.
Between Monteriggioni and San Gimignano, Poggio ai Laghi hospitality takes different forms: vineyards, tables surrounded by nature, spaces dedicated to special events, and our historic wine house in the heart of San Gimignano. Different places, united by the same approach to welcoming our guests.
We believe a bottle of wine can tell a story, but experiencing that story where it comes to life can turn it into a lasting memory.
Francesco Sguazzi, Volterra-born entrepreneur and patron of Poggio ai Laghi, talks about his dream in Chianti:
“Poggio ai Laghi represents the opportunity to enhance the believe in what I am proud of: ‘made in Italy’. We consider italian wine to be an ambassador of our beautiful country to the world. Made in Italy represents quality and beauty unparalleled in wine culture. Quality of the grapes, the final product and the beauty that is expressed by our country from art to culture is recognized all over the world. Thanks to the art that is winemaking, our wines unite the history and identity of Monteriggioni and Chianti.”
Women are the common thread of Poggio ai Laghi: our logo features a female profile because Mother Earth, who grants us her fruits, is a woman. Donna Ava who founded the Benedictine monastery of Abbadia Isola and seven other churches, was a woman, just like all the mothers of the world. Beside the female profile, our logo also includes the tricolor symbol of Made in Italy and a half-heart, representing our deep love for this land.
