testTHE COUNTESS AND THE 7 HANDMAIDENS FOR GOOD LUCK
Eight women lived in Monteriggioni in the Middle Ages, believed to be protective and auspicious figures: the Countess Ava Zenovi dei Lombardi, whose existence is documented, and her 7 handmaids, whose existence is mixed and myth and legend. Together they helped the people and welcomed patrons. A story almost lost. We rediscovered it by matching it with the talent of a local artist, Maria Chiara Viviani, already selected in one of the catalogs of renowned Italian art critic Vittorio Sgarbi. Viviani imagined the faces of these 8 women, creating a mural that she later drew inspiration from for the labels of Poggio ai Laghi wines, good luck charms for those who choose them, like the positive figures we want to celebrate.
Women are the common thread of Poggio ai Laghi: there is a female profile in our logo because female is Mother Earth who gives us her fruits. Woman was Countess Ava founder of the Benedictine Monastery of Abbadia Isola and 7 other churches, and women are all the mothers of the world. Next to the feminine I wanted the tricolor symbol of made in Italy and a half heart symbolizing love for our land.
We are a modern winery with solid roots: the structure was created according to the vocated position of the organically cultivated vineyard. Being selected every day by people from all over the world to meet Tuscany and Chianti is a responsibility and a pride. Here we try to offer the typical Italian welcome thanks to a team accustomed to meeting people from different continents and cultures, from India to Korea, from Australia to America.
